Floating down a river in the raging Texas heat is by far one of the best ways to spend your day during the summer. Texas is known for having quite a few rivers for just that, and one of the best ones is super close to Austin. The San Marcos River runs through a college campus but is open to anyone who wants to have a relaxing and refreshing day!
Only about a 30 minute drive from Austin is the perfect place to float and lay out all day. Once you arrive on Texas State University's campus, its impossible to miss. The river runs through the entire campus perfect for college kids and visitors alike. There's tons of spots to start your float at, but many people's favorites is where everyone lays out at, at Sewell Park.
Sewell Park and The San Marcos river go hand-in-hand. If you'd rather just get your tan on all day, hanging out at Sewell Park near a volleyball court and some other cool spots is the best place to go. You can dip your toes in the water and just hang out with your friends all day. Floating the river itself is by far the best part, though!
The current in the San Marcos River is strong and your summer bliss will be even stronger while you're floating it. The river is known for having lots of cool plant life within in, something most rivers in Texas don't have. Cut out enough time to spend most of your day here, because you won't want to leave!
