Butterflies are the state insect of Texas so its only fitting that there would be a butterfly garden on the same grounds as the Texas State Fair. The Texas Discovery Gardens in Dallas offers visitors a chance to explore seven and a half acres of beautiful Texas plants and enjoy a stroll through their butterfly garden.
The entire place is made up of three gardens. One of those gardens is called the Shakespeare garden where all the plants inside are those that have been mentioned in his plays and sonnets. You'll also be able to visit the Master garden where you can find all the plants that are able to survive through the Texas heat. Visitors also get to see tons of plants that are native to Texas but don't always necessarily grow in the area.
Of course, their main attraction is their gorgeous butterfly habitat. You can see all the stages of the butterfly's life cycle in this beautiful garden filled to the brim with the colorful creatures. On occasion, the butterflies get very friendly and will even land on you!
Texas Discovery Gardens also has exhibits for those looking for a little danger. The exhibit showcases 20 species of venomous and non-venomous native snakes, but don't worry, you will be completely safe when visiting.
The garden is only $10 to enter and they are open every day of the week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They often hold special events like plant sales so you can take a little piece of the garden home with you.
Texas Discovery Garden is located at 3601 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Dallas, TX 75210. For more information on the garden, you can visit their website here.
