As Christmas approaches, the charm of the small towns in Texas is undeniable. If you are in the Dallas area and have free time this holiday season, it's always a good idea to escape for a while and soak up the festive joy, fun, and activities of a small town. Irving will celebrate its annual holiday extravaganza this weekend, and it's a great chance to live the season to the fullest.

The Irving Holiday Extravaganza is a two-part event. Everything starts with a community parade through the Heritage District followed by a tree lighting ceremony outside of Irving City Hall.

This Christmas fest is long-awaited by the community because it includes musical presentations, dances, crafts, entertainment for children and delicious food and drink concessions, including free samples.

This year's parade will have a new feature: Lights! Attendees will witness a lit up procession of floats traveling from the historic Heritage District to downtown Irving.

The parade will also have a variety of decorated vehicles, people dressed like popular seasonal characters, and marching bands.

Closing the parade will be the one and only Santa Claus, directly from the North Pole. Then, everything will be ready for the tree lighting ceremony nearby, at the City Hall.

After the procession, the tree lighting ceremony will take place. You will enjoy festive music all over the place, and food and beverage vendors will be on the premises, so feel free to grab some yummy food.

You may also be able to grab some very unique holiday presents from the stores nearby.

To treat you, In-N-Out Burger will be offering free burgers and complimentary hot chocolate to festival-goers during the music performances, while supplies last.

There will be lights everywhere, dance presentations, crafts stations, and kid's zone since the event is completely family-friendly. Feel free to bring your pet as well, leashed.

Make sure to attend the lighting of the huge 30-foot Christmas tree on the lawn of City Hall, it's the best photo-op in the whole event! And of course, after that, a firework show will turn the sky into a true luminous extravaganza.

This event will happen from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is completely free.
