This Tulip Field Near Dallas Is Now Open To Satisfy Your 'Sound Of Music' Fantasies
Use your tulips to kiss winter goodbye!
If you've ever imagined yourself as Julie Andrews in Sound of Music joyfully twirling about in the middle of an endless field of flowers, then read on, my flora-loving friend. This tulip field near Dallas is now open, and you can pick your own tulips and take the most iconic photos among the thousands of blooms.
The Texas Tulips story starts about 40 years ago with a husband and wife team from Holland who started with only a handful of onion seeds. Once they got the hang of horticultural management, they expanded their acreage and widened their variety of crops into chrysanthemums, irises, and tulips.
And here’s where the tulip love story blooms.
The Koeman’s began specializing in tulips and figured out how to grow them nearly two weeks early using greenhouses and a proprietary bulb planting method.
Each winter, their tulip crop yielded tens of millions of beautiful tulips. Their reputation spread as wild as the flowers, eventually commanding top dollar at the world’s largest flower auction.
In 2011, they decided to bring a bit of Holland to North Texas and share their love of tulips! Fast forward to today and it’s literally what profile photo dreams are made of.
With a variety of 90 different kinds of tulips, you can pick your favorites to take home with you.
Once you arrive, you will select your favorite charming flower basket and leisurely stroll row upon row of seemingly endless fields of flowers to select your personalized bouquet.
Each stem sells for $2.50 and they carefully wrap up your new bouquet for you with a gel preservative to keep your bundle fresh until you get home.
The tulip field opens on varying dates depending on the blooming season. This year Texas Tulips is open for all of Spring Break this March until early April.
We’d suggest planning a visit during the weekday to miss the crowds. Otherwise, parking on the weekends can be gruesome.
