The metroplex can get kind of busy nowadays with how fast the city is expanding. There are spots you can escape to within DFW but sometimes those escapes aren't far enough away from the city. If you're looking to get a little further away, you can take a short road trip from Dallas to visit waterfalls and canyons in the Wichita Mountains. The mountains are located in Oklahoma, a three-hour drive from Dallas, and they offer the most spectacular views.

The mountains serve as a refuge for endangered species. The mountains are a bit of a climb but the views are definitely unbeatable. On many of their trails, you'll come across bison, elk, and much more. They have 15 trails designated for hiking that range from beginner to expert. There are some areas where the terrain is a little rocky so we suggest preparing before stopping by.

No matter what trail you choose to take, you'll surely find an amazing view that is worthy enough to share on Instagram. If you don't want to hike it alone, you can sign up for a tour of the reserve on any of their designated days. They offer around 50 tours a year so you can definitely catch one.

When exploring the nature spot, you might run into a small spring or two to make things that much more exciting. You can stop by for a visit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. any day of the week but they are closed on major holidays. You won't need to pay to get into this awesome park as it is free of charge. If you like getting away from the city and exploring you can also stop by the beautiful Turner Falls.
