You Can Pick Your Own Veggies At Houston's Most Rural Hidden Gem
Coolest. Grocery Store. Ever.
Seeing as how Houston is one of the biggest cities in America, it makes sense that it'd be covered head-to-toe in buildings. It's certainly not rural, however, smack dab in the middle of the city lies a massive, get ready, farm. It's not just any farm though, it's a fruit farm in Houston that's perfect for picking your own produce and it's completely hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Finca Tres Robles is an urban community farm located in Houston's Second Ward. It's the only farm inside of the 610 loop, which makes it the only farm near downtown.
On Saturday, February 22 the private farm is hosting a "Pick-It-Yourself Harvest" where Houstonians get to tour the local farm andand veggies that you can buy and take home.
This event is held every fourth Saturday of the month and not only is it a great way to get fresh fruits, veggies, and herbs, but it's also a guided tour where you get to learn about seasonal crops and even taste test them.
To go pick your produce, you need to choose one of their 45-minute time slots and reserve your spot on the tour.
The tickets for the event cost $10 plus the cost of the fruits and veggies you end up taking with you.
Finca Tres Robles is a sustainable farm and they are one of the best places in town toand veggies possible.
It's kind of like going to the grocery store and picking up produce for your meal. This way is much cooler though.
When: Pick-It-Yourself is held every fourth Saturday of the month.
Address: 257 N Greenwood St., Houston, TX
Why You Need To Go: It's the most unique way to get the freshest possible produce and is way more fun than a trip to the store.
