You Can Get Up Close And Personal With Bathing Elephants At The Houston Zoo
When was the last time you had Dumbo fever?
Everyone knows elephants for being massive, intimidating, and overwhelming when you are with one up close and personal. With all that said, they are hands down the cutest little giants on our planet. If you've got Dumbo fever and a free morning, make your way over to the Houston Zoo's elephant exhibit to get a first-hand glimpse of the elephants living their best life during bath time.
Every day at 10 a.m. when you venture over to the McNair Asian Elephant Habitat, you will see the caregivers AKA "zookeepers" hosing down the facility's eight elephants. Make sure you head straight for the barn where the elephants are housed, that's where you can take a super close peek at what Houston's most buzzed-about bath time is all about.
The zoo's website warns about a splash zone, but there's not a human alive that would object to getting a little suds on them, especially if it's from the zoo's latest edition, a baby elephant named Tilly. Just make sure not to come in wearing your freshest threads if you choose to hop into the splash zone.
Surprisingly, there isn't much of a line when you arrive at this time of day, especially since summertime is coming to a close. You should have no problem grabbing a cup of coffee and getting a first-hand look at the show.
If you take a quick look at the Houston Zoo's website, there are lots of cool little facts about the habitat so you can live in your own private version of Planet Earth.
Elephants are a precious species that are being protected by the Houston Zoo and have a wealth of activities to keep them busy throughout the day including a huge 160,000-gallon pool where they get a break from that Texas heat.
