City living is what dreams are made of, and as much as we love exploring the urban jungle, sometimes a quick getaway to a local park is the perfect way to get some peace of mind. The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center is comfortably nestled in the western point of Memorial Park has a massive 155-acre property that caters to runners, bird watchers, or really just anybody looking to take a walk amongst their gorgeous assortment of plants.
Over 200,000 visitors come from far and wide to get a glimpse of this popular spot which is one of the largest urban parks in all of the country. The super cool thing about the Houston Arboretum is how many types of experiences you can have there; each day can be truly different. If you've just come from a run, you can cool down and walk among the shaded paths, or if you're feeling artsy, you can bring your camera and snap some photos for "the gram." There's no cost to get in, and parking is ample and available for under $2 per hour.
While the park can be used as a place to clear your head, they have a ton of super fun programs that are unlike anything the city has to offer. Popsicles & Possums is a fan-favorite event where you can kick back with nature's cutest nocturnal critters, and in October and November, they're hosting classes on how to make your own Wine and Beer.
You can also get acquainted with the park with guided tours. However, it's more fun to walk around on your own and discover for yourself. When you're finished walking about the trails, come inside and check out the Discovery Center and perhaps snag a gift at the Nature Shop. The Arboretum is open every day from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
If you're looking for a quick vacation from the stresses of life, or just passing through Houston, you owe it to yourself to swing by and enjoy the finer things in life.
