Some of the greatest influences on American style and fashion still greatly impact our world today. And a brand new exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston takes visitors on a journey through the evolution of style.
This exhibit features 200 photographs that capture the progression of style over 100 years. Style icons that broke the molds and paved new ways like Beyoncé, David Bowie, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Jones, Run-DMC, Selena, and Solange are featured.
Icons Of Style opened to the public on Sunday and will remain open through September 22nd.
On the wall lining the entrance, MFAH projects images from the classic covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Ebony, and Essence.
Aside from just fashion photography, Icons Of Style also displays fashion artifacts like dresses, Italian handbags, and sunglasses from the 40s.
And before you go, don't forget to strike a Selena-esque pose in front of this backdrop. We all could benefit from channeling a little Selena attitude into our lives every now and then.
Tickets are on sale for $23 for adults and free for members. But if you're a student, senior, veteran, or under 19, you can get a ticket for only $18.
You can also get an audio guide to walk you through Icons Of Style in both English and Spanish.
If nothing else, this new fashion exhibit reminds us of how it can pay off to be a little bit risque from time to time. After all, we wouldn't have the fashion we have today without these courageous icons.
