Art can be so captivating and moving, but it's one thing to see a piece of art, and another to be in it. Have you ever seen a really cool piece of artwork and have wondered what it would be like to step inside of it? It would probably be a trippy, surreal world full of bright colors much like this free mosaic park in Houston that looks like you're stepping into a magical piece of artwork!

Not far from the University of Houston and next to the iconic The Orange Show, Smither Park is the spot home to huge and intricate mosaic sculptures.

Smither Park is a project by The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art who also created of a bunch of other really popular Houston art installations like the Beer Can House and the Houston Art Car Parade.

The park is full of permanent mosaic sculptures that over 300 artists have contributed to over the years and is the ultimate way to see and experience local art.

The urban grounds are teeming with colorful art and the mosaic pathways lead you to everything from swings, huge Dia De Los Muertos looking skeletons playing chess, an amphitheater made from mosaic pieces, and even a throne with your own built-in crown!

Intricate artwork is everywhere at the park and the hodgepodge work of hundreds of different artists creates an unplanned, natural kind of vibe.

It's almost as if the mosaic pieces are growing and creating their own surreal world in the middle of Houston!

You can visit this completely immersive artwork for free because admission to the park is always free and is open every day from dawn until dusk.

If you want to watch the park transform in front of your eyes, you should head to the park on Saturday mornings starting at 10 a.m. and watch local artists work on the different installations.

A visit to this local Houston park is all that's needed to step into a magical artistic world.
