People love scenic overlooks. There is something about being able to see the tippy-tops of Texas trees that people seem to like. Waco's gorgeous overlook named the Lovers' Leap in Cameron Park has some of the best views in Texas. At the very top, there is a cliff you'll be able to hang out on while you admire the river and nature below it.
Lovers' Leap has tons of lore behind it. While no story has been confirmed as the one true story, they all follow the same key patterns. Two star-crossed lovers finally meet and instead of not being able to be together, they decide to take their lives by jumping off the cliff wrapped in each other's arms.
While no one knows for sure exactly what happened that gave the overlook its name, it is still an amazing spot to go and enjoy. The trail to Lovers' Leap is a walking trail so you can take it nice and slow on the way up. It is quite shady so you won't have to worry too much about this Texas heat.
There are several picnic tables scattered around so you can have an amazing view while you eat out. The outlook has been open to tourists for about 100 years but they have added more rails around the cliff to ensure everyone's safety.
This amazing view is located in Cameron Park which is open from 6 a.m. to midnight every day of the week. There is no entry fee to get into the park.
