Hiking can be an amazing way to enjoy yourself in the great outdoors and what could be more rewarding than reaching a breathtaking view at the end of it all? Window Trail at Big Bend National Park offers the perfect light hike that leads you right to a "top-of-the-world" mountain view. From the top, you can see the most insane views the park has to offer. Texas has tons of great trails to hike but none could be as beautiful as this one.
The trail is a good five miles and there is rarely any foot traffic. To get to the top, you'll need to climb the most beautiful set of stone stairs and maybe jump over a creek or two. Summer and early fall are the best times to hit the trail and don't worry about the heat because there is plenty of shade to keep things cooled down.
At the top, you'll see a "window" where the two mountains open creating the perfectly instagrammable moment for all its visitors.
Since the trail is located in the national park, we always recommend checking the Big Bend Facebook page for trail closures due to crazy Texas weather. For the most part, the trail is open every day and offers the perfect hike for those days when you want to be outside but don't want to put in too much work for a view.
Window Trail is inside Big Bend National Park so you will have to pay their daily entrance fee which can be anywhere from $15 to $30 depending on if you're going alone or with friends. The park is open 24 hours a day year round.
While you're in Big Bend National Park, you can also check out some of their other gorgeous activities in nature. There is a stunning waterfall near the Windows Trail called Cattail Falls that is the perfect place to cool off on your trek. The falls are surrounded by massive walls of rock that make the falls perfectly hidden and secluded.
You can also go for a kayaking trip or a refreshing swim through the canyons. This would be perfect if you're wanting to see the coolest views from below the canyons after your trip up to Windows Trail gives you the coolest views from above the canyon!
