Could there be anything more delightful than soaking in a natural spring with nothing but snow-clad trees and mountains for company? If that sounds like your dream winter getaway, then you'll want to hear what comes next. There's a hot spring in Washington that fits that exact description, and it's the state's best-kept secret.
The Scenic Hot Springs is as exclusive (and as magical) as it gets. It's located on private property in the lofty Cascade Mountains near Stevens Pass, and you're allowed to soak in its natural goodness by reservation only.
Only 10 people are allowed per day and these spots get filled up months in advance, so we suggest making a booking here ASAP. You can follow the steps here to snag a spot.
Once you and your squad have been approved, it'll cost you $10 per person, and you'll be sent precise directions on how to get there.
The uphill-hike to this spot is unmarked and is rated difficult. The climb is about a 1,100-foot change in elevation over 1.5 miles. Winter brings piles of snow too, so don't forget to bring your snowshoes.
Once at the property, you'll get to relax in one of three therapeutic natural hot springs with endless views of the mountains.
These pristine tubs are usually at a temperature between 118F and 114F and have minerals like lithium in them.
Minors, pets, and fires are not allowed at this spot. If you choose to bring booze, it's recommended that it comes in shatter-proof bottles.
Clothing is optional in these tubs, but behavior that makes other guests uncomfortable is strictly ruled out.
This experience is as rustic as it gets as you'll be surrounded by the Mt.Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest on all sides.
If you get lucky, you can enjoy falling flakes and a snowy vista into the valley too.
While this is an essential Pacific Northwest bucket-list item, there are several others you can check out while you're in the area. One of our favorites includes this list of spots in Washington that look like a Swiss town right now!
