This Is How A Canadian Woman Won The Respect Of Scottish People Everywhere

Canadians and Scots share many things in common, but perhaps the biggest one is that they both have an immense pride for their cultures.

While Canadians are known for their politeness, Scots (particularly those in Glasgow) are world-famous for their sense of humour. If you take a look through Scottish Twitter, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

That said, arguably the best way to win the heart of a Glasgow native is by making them laugh (or ‘laff,’ as they say). One Canadian woman named Anne Thériault, a writer, managed to do just that, and she won the respect of Scottish people everywhere as a result.

But seriously though - best pub facade In Britain? #TheLismore #glasgow

During her visit to a famous pub in Glasgow called The Lismore, she came across an unusual plaque in the gents room (we’re not sure why she was in there in the first place, but that’s besides the point). Written on it is a statement that invites the reader to, ahem, ‘pay respect’ to three unnamed men. It reads:

“This urinal is dedicated to three men who participated in the Scottish Highland Clearances. These men took part in what is now recognised as a form of Central Government-endorsed ethnic cleansing. Through their greed and bigotry, they and others have been instrumental in destroying a centuries old Scottish Highland way of life. Please feel free to pay them the respect they deserve.”

Scotland, man. They don’t fuck around.

Anne took a photo of the rather sarcastic plaque and shared it to her 50K followers on Twitter with the caption “Scotland, man. They don’t f*** around.”Her tweet went viral and Scottish people everywhere sent her their positive reactions to it.

“My mentions are full of hilarious Scottish people and honestly Twitter has never been such a f***ing beautiful dream,” she added.

Till this day, the plaque remains hung over the urinals in the gents room. You can literally pee on each of their names. It’s fantastic.

The moral of the story is: don’t f*** with Scottish people. You’re gonna want them as friends, not enemies.

Gotta love the Scots!
