Christmas is a time for traditions; decorating the tree, carolling, making gingerbread houses, counting down the month of December with an advent calendar, baking sugar cookies... None of these quite compare, though, to what is arguably the most quintessential holiday tradition ever — leaving cookies and milk out for Santa Claus!

This Christmas Eve ritual is the one tradition that truly keeps the magic of the holidays alive. If you're an adult, you've done it, you know the drill. But do you really remember how magical it was to find cookie crumbs and an empty glass of milk on Christmas morning? Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

After you put out a handful of chocolate chip cookies and a cold glass of milk for Santa — and maybe a few carrots for the reindeer — you're tucked into bed and told to keep one eye open for the big man himself. Of course, you always fall asleep right away despite trying so hard to stay awake, and in the morning, you rush downstairs to see an empty plate, half-eaten carrots, and a freshly-drank cup of milk. It was a truly magical moment — but how much cooler would it have been if you actually saw Santa?

To celebrate the holidays, Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC), the national organization representing Canadian dairy farmers, has launched "The Santa Surprise," a sentimental campaign that celebrates the central role of milk in this popular Canadian tradition. The video shows the real, emotional reactions of children as they see Santa for the very first time, drinking the glass of milk they just prepared for him.

The video is enough to make anyone smile, and let's be honest, make any adult jealous of not having seen Santa in their house as a kid.

"Leaving milk out for Santa is such a timeless tradition and we wanted to bring that magical moment to life this holiday season," said Pamela Nalewajek, Vice President, Marketing, DFC. "We want consumers to know that by choosing products marked with our blue cow logo, they can rest assured the milk they’re pouring for Santa was produced with care by Canadian dairy farmers."

So whether you're buying milk for your own kids or you're a millennial who just wants to continue the Christmas tradition in your lonely bachelor apartment, look for the blue cow logo. You'll know you'll be giving Santa — and yourself — quality Canadian milk.
