If you love your Tims, this news will make your day. Tim Hortons' rewards program is changing and it seems to be for the better. Tims' new system will soon be points-based and when you're ready to redeem those points, you'll have even more free menu items to choose from.
The coffee chain stated in a press release on Friday that on February 26, Tim Hortons is expanding its customer loyalty program. Instead of an item-based rewards system, customers will now be earning points with every purchase.
With each transaction that's more than $0.50 and more than 30 minutes apart, members will get 10 points.
You only need 50 points to start redeeming freebies like hash browns, classic donuts, and cookies. If you save up 220 points, you can cash them in for breakfast and lunch sandwiches.
The new rewards system is as follows:
50 points: hash browns, classic donuts, specialty donuts, cookies
70 points: brewed coffee, tea, Dream Donuts, bagels and baked goods
100 points: hot chocolate, French vanilla, iced coffee, wedges
140 points: Classic Iced Capp, frozen beverages, espresso drinks, box of 10 Timbits, yogurt, oatmeal
180 points: breakfast sandwiches, soups
220 points: Bagel B.E.L.T., farmers breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, chili"
Members who use a digital card or link a physical one through the Tim Hortons app will have access to exclusive bonuses, starting with a promotion to earn twice the points from February 26 to March 18.
Digital members will also get a free reward on their birthday.
With the new program, you can bank your points for as long as you want. You can even save up for a year and then splash out on a free Timmies feast.
When it launches, unregistered users just have to link their card numbers with their email on the Tim Hortons app or online.
With the previous system, members could get a free hot brewed coffee, hot tea or baked good (except for Timbits and bagels) after every seventh purchase that was more than 50 cents and 30 minutes after their last visit.
Now there are many more menu items available to choose from.
Until you earn enough points for a free coffee or snack, you can spice things up with these Tim Hortons "secret menu" hacks.
