Winter is finally arriving in Toronto, as much as we hate to admit it. Soon enough there will be piles of fluffy snow falling from the skies, holiday lights displayed on every street, and Christmas carols playing on every radio station. Sure winter, in general, can be kind of miserable, what with the shorter daylight hours and freezing cold temperatures, but you can't deny how magical the holiday season is in the city!
Every year Toronto transforms into a stunning winter wonderland so there's no excuse for not getting outside, braving the cold, and experiencing the best this city has to offer in the wintertime!
These are some of the best winter activities to take part in once the airs turns frosty, so add them to your winter bucket list ASAP!
The Bentway Skate Trail
Opened for the first time last winter, The Bentway Skate Trail is the newest hot spot in the city! You can skate under the Gardiner Expressway for a winter adventure you definitely won't forget. Skate past trees covered with twinkly lights with views of the shimmering city skyline right in front of you!
Ontario Place Winter Light Exhibition
Ontario Place has become one of the coolest event destinations in the city, hosting all kinds of festivals year round. Last year they hosted the unreal Winter Lights Exhibition and it was a huge hit! Now it's coming back for round two and you'll find similar favourites from last year like the skating rink, forest of twinkly lights, bonfires, and more!
Harbourfront DJ Skate Nights
Every year the Harbourfront opens up their skating rink by the water and it's truly one of the best spots in the city to partake in this winter tradition. What makes it even better is that on the weekends they host DJ skate nights after dark with live music, lights, and tons of fun!
Hot Chocolate at Sweet Jesus
Sweet Jesus is known for their over-the-top soft serve creations that are covered in a crazy amount of toppings. But they also serve up unreal hot chocolates during the colder months of the year. They have three flavours of hot chocolate including their salted dark hot chocolate, their S'mores hot chocolate, and their cake batter hot chocolate! It's the perfect, and most delicious, way to warm up this winter.
Toronto Light Fest
The Toronto Light Fest is an annual festival that takes over the city's infamous Distillery District every year. The Winter Stations is a design competition that takes over the Beaches in the east end of the city every year. Tons of temporary installations will be set up along the beach to celebrate Toronto's winter waterfront landscape. This year's theme is Migration and while the installations haven't yet been released, we know they're going to be amazing just like the year's before.
Friday Night Live at the ROM
If you've ever wondered what the ROM looks like after dark, you can actually see it with your own eyes at one of their weekly Friday night parties! Every Friday night the ROM will be hosting themed parties with drinks, music, and dancing where you can actually drink a cocktail with your friends under massive dinosaur bones!
