It's no mystery that as modern medicine and technology progress, human life expectancy grows longer. Less than a hundred years ago, it was a miracle just to make it into your 60’s. Now we consider those to be our golden years! In the 21st-century, age is just a number, or at least that’s what one Toronto Raptors fan was out to prove to the crowd at Scotiabank on Wednesday night.

A 100-year-old Raptors fan was given a heartwarming shout out during the team’s face-off against the Detroit Pistons last night. “We want to send a very special shout out to our friend Paul who is celebrating his 100th birthday today,” an announcer proclaimed before gifting the superfan with his own Raptors jersey and a birthday cake.

Of course, it didn’t take long for fans to take to social media to celebrate how good Paul looks for his age. “Gem of a man. Hope he enjoys a Raptors win on his birthday,” wrote one user in a wholesome post about the long-time sports fan.

“And looks barely 80! That’s the way to do it! Wishing you an amazing year, sir, happiness and health all the way,” wrote another.

The moment was about as wholesome as it gets, but it was Paul's reaction that really brought it home.

The Raptors have a history of celebrating older members of their fanbase. Back in July, 92-year-old Alvena Chance, an avid Raptors fan, received a shout out from Kyle Lowry after the player and his family became aware of her surprising fandom.

“Hello Alvena, this Kyle Lowry of the Toronto Raptors. I’m glad you supported us so much, your support meant so much to me, to all of our fans and our team,” Lowry said in a brief clip at the time.

Here’s hoping that Paul and Alvena get to witness many more great Raptors games and keep coming back to support our boys on the court.
