Toronto was ranked the 12th most expensive city in the world this year by a UBC study. Since being a foodie is in your veins now, here's where to eat for cheap if the city that is making you poor.
Read on, get hungry, and save some money:
1. Frankie’s Diner // 994 Queen Street West
Start your day in a cute diner spot with great breakfast and allegedly “the world’s best burgers”. The 3,95$ BLT sandwich is the best I've ever had, and there's some other delicious stuff under 5$.
2. El Furniture Warehouse // 410 Bloor Street West
This spot boasts decent size meals that are all under $4.95. Though the drinks are priced normally, this is probably one of the cheapest places for food in the city. With it's premium dive bar atmosphere,it's not surprise that this place is owned by a couple of ex-skateboarders/snowboarders.
3. Banh Mi Boys // 392 Queen Street West
The unofficial subway of Vietnam, the banh mi is off the hook at this place. Oh and they also serve awesome bao, like the pork belly bao (pictured above) which is only $3.49. Topped with pickled daikon and luck sauce, this is some serious eats.

4. 416 Snack Bar // 181 Bathurst Street
Though the menu is meant for sharing so the portions are on the smaller side, everything on this menu is super delicious. Pre-eat some super cheap kraft dinner from home then come here and indulge in some $5 Korean fried chicken or a $5 miso kale salad.
5. Rose City Kitchen // 406 Queen Street West
Serving up some delicious mediterranean sandwiches, the halloumi cheese is an absolute must try. The damage on that one is a whopping $5, though they do recommend you get at least two. Choose from a variety of toppings including the Egyptian (eggplant, red onions, chickpeas, dates, cabbage, lemon juice, olive oil), the Moroccan (harissa dressing, cous cous, shredded lettuce, red onion, apricots, almond, chick peas) to name a few. Serious, serious eats people.
6. South Indian Dosa Mahal // 1262 Bloor Street West
Rumoured to have life-changing samosas, this place boasts the cheapest Indian food in town, though they don’t sacrifice quality at all. The vegetable roti stands at a whopping $2.50 and is a great portion of food for the price. Also notable…2 pakoras and 1 samosa costs $1…thats $1. Life just got a little better.
7. The Dock Ellis // 1280 Dundas Street West
Not only does the Dock Ellis implement a craft beer only policy, their food is to-die-for while reasonably priced. There's a whole snack menu for $5, and it includes fried mac & Cheese Bites. Yes, fried mac & cheese bites.
8. Food & Liquor // 1610 Queen Street West
This is THE place to go after work. The restaurant just announced their happy hour special on Instagram! They offer a choice of 5 food items & 5 beers for $5, between 5 and 7 on weekdays.

9. Wilbur Mexicana // 552 King Street West
This King Street West restaurant combines great value with amazing taste. The tacos are only $3.75 each and there are over 100 types of hot sauces to give your meal that extra kick! The baha fish tacos are my top choice for sure.
10. The Big Slice Pizza // 385 Yonge Street
Literally the best cheap pizza ever! The regular slice is $3.81, and the deluxe one is 4$. If you haven't drunk munched Big Slice yet, you haven't lived.
11. Mean Bao // 167 Bathurst Street
This Chinese restaurant offers a whole menu under 5$. The dumplings and the steamed buns are recognized as the best in the area.
12. Moo Frites // 178 Baldwin Street
It's more than fries. This Belgium inspired restaurant offers a lunch menu under $5. And forget the traditional mayo/ketchup: they have 18 different sauces that you can drench your fries in! If you're willing to spend just a little more than $5, the Japo fries, covered in wasabi-mayo,sesame seeds and crushed nori are a MUST.
