4 Canadian Universities Ranked In The Top 100 Of The World

With many universities heading back to school today, there's no better time to be a Canadian student.

As part of the annual Times Higher Education World University Rankings, four Canadian universities have maintained their global rankings and have been recognized as the top 100 universities in the world, giving Canada some serious bragging rights.

Times Higher Education, which compiles the rankings, said that margins were extremely close at the top, with all the top-ranked institutions excelling against measures in teaching, research, citations, international outlook and income.

In the 2018 THE ranking released Tuesday, the University of Toronto maintained its 22nd position, remaining the top Canadian university for the eighth year in a row and in the top 10 of publicly funded universities worldwide.

The University of British Columbia moved up two positions into the 34th spot since last year, while McGill came in 42nd, followed by McMaster at 78th.

The University of Montreal and the University of Alberta made it into the top 200 overall institutions, ranking at 108 and 119 respectively.

"Holding steady in the way Canada has is a really positive finding," said Phil Baty, editorial director, global rankings for Times Higher Education. "You really do have to run fast to stand still in this context of intense global competition."
