Here Are 5 Places Other Than High Park Where You Can See Cherry Blossoms Right Now
The start of spring in Toronto means crowded patios, outdoor events, and of course, sakura cherry blossoms. High Park is known for its surreal display of cherry blossom trees, which look absolutely stunning now that they're in full bloom.
But, they draw quite the crowd. Thousands are flocking to High Park to see the sakura trees this week. Tourists arrive at around 7 AM, so your best chance of seeing them in complete peace and quiet is basically at sunrise.
Luckily, there are plenty of other places in the city to see sakura trees without swarms of people around, and we've rounded up the top five.
1. Centre Island
Take the ferry to Centre Island and see the cherry blossom trees in all their glory. There are about thirty of them in bloom right now, and you can find them on the south end of the bridge near the fountain. Make a day of it and rent bikes or explore the island's sandy beaches!
2. Trinity Bellwoods Park
The rows of cherry blossom trees lining the path at Trinity Bellwoods Park are absolutely spectacular. The park can get pretty crowded, depending on when you visit. But, there's plenty of open green space to lay down a blanket and hang out right beside the beautiful blooming trees.
3. Centennial Park, Etobicoke
Centennial Park is just outside of Toronto's west end and has the second largest collection of blooming cherry blossoms. There are around 200 of them planted here, and the park itself is full of scenic walking paths and picnic spots.
4. University of Toronto, St. George Campus
U of T's downtown campus is gorgeous as it is, and the clusters of sakura cherry trees near Robarts Library are a lovely added bonus at this time of year. Now's your chance to explore the historic university campus and catch a glimpse of the cherry blossoms in bloom.
5. Cedarvale Park
Located in midtown Toronto, Cedarvale Park is one of the city's hidden gems. There are dozens of sakura trees planted throughout the park - exploring and finding them all is half the fun. Cedarvale Park also has a massive off-leash dog area, tennis courts, a splash pad and outdoor fitness equipment for everyone to use.
