7 Things You Should Know About The Toronto Raptors This Season

The Toronto Raptors are off to a pretty decent start in the 2017-18 season. They're currently sitting 3rd in the Eastern Conference, going on 11 wins and 6 losses. A lot rests on the shoulders of this team because in the NBA they don't represent just a city- they represent the whole nation. Their past ups and downs seem to be very consistent so far this season, which isn't a big shock to anyone.

If you're not the biggest basketball fan and have no idea what I am talking about, here is a little crash course on the Raptors season so far. Expect big things from this team.

1. They have a new slogan

If you haven't noticed yet, now you have. While staying true to the "We The North" theme, the Raptors new slogan is "North Over Everything". It's very similar to the "Toronto vs. Everybody" idea, making it a very true Torontonian type slogan- but embodying all of Canada. They have a killer intro video, that follows closely with the Stranger Things theme (aka, it is AMAZING).

2. Lots of fresh faces and young faces

Serge Ibaka was traded to the Raptors after the All-Star break, making this his first full season in a Raptors jersey. You've also got the quick whits of the young guns: O.G. Anunoby, Norman Powell, Jakob Poeltl, Delon Wright, Pascal Siakam, Lucas Nogueira, Fred VanVleet and of course, Bruno Caboclo (sometimes).

3. The power duo

The stars in Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozen, are coming off a deadly season with more fire than ever. Despite not making the championship last year, DeRozan tallied an average of 22 points a game, and Lowry tallied in the playoffs 15 points. So far this season, Lowry is sitting at about the same, and DeRozan is at 24 a game.

4. She The North

Stepping away from their game on the court, let's talk about off the court. The Raptors recently launched a new speaker series which brings together women from all aspects in the sports world and gives them a platform to share their stories and learn from each other- giving them this platform to really empower women in sports!

5. OG Anunoby is straight fire

While Toronto is already in love with him and his game, OG is being noticed everywhere and by everyone. Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors, recently talked about OG as one of the most impressive rookies this season. He's not wrong. The rook can handle the ball well, and his rebound collection is feisty.

6. Same old, same old

While there are many good things about this season, if you're a Raptors fan you will get it when I say, the boys are back on the same track. They have a killer game or two, get your hopes up and start a comeback and then BAM!-they come up short. The offense may be on FIRE thus far, I expect a lot of the same tendencies.

7. They are the ultimate underdogs

Other NBA fans hate on them, say their not a real team. They say that they have no chance of making it past their slum and every year get told, "you're not making the playoffs". Yes, they hit a slum in the post season, but these men know that they can come out on top. They're used to hearing it so much-trust me, they are not phased.
