A Brand New Wilfrid Laurier University Campus Is Coming To The GTA

Ontario is investing $90 million into a new university in Milton, which will be ready to accept 2,000 new undergrads as early as five years from now. The university will be a partnership between Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College in Kitchener-Waterloo. It'll offer programs in science, tech, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

The decision to build the new school is part of Ontario's initiative to support Ontario's Innovation SuperCorridor, or Canada's Silicon Valley as many people are now calling it. The SuperCorridor is where most of Ontario's tech startups and innovation incubators are located, and also where major companies like Google and Shopify have established their head offices.

Right now, the population of 18 to 24 year olds in the Milton area is around 200,000 and is expected to grow by 20% in the coming years. It's the perfect spot to open a new learning space for Canada's young generation and rising talent to thrive.
Other than the STEAM-focused range of programs, the university will offer tons of opportunities to prepare students for work, including co-ops, experiential learning placements and internships. Students will also have access to a "living laboratory" on the Niagara Escarpment. The university will work closely with the Milton Chamber of Commerce to give students the chance to contribute to the local community.

According to Indira Naidoo-Harris, Halton Region's Minister of Education, "Milton is at the heart of Ontario’s Innovation Supercorridor and is one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. The expansion of postsecondary education here will drive innovation and opportunity, and grow the local community. This new campus creates a path forward for young people, businesses and the Halton Region.”
