A Virtual Quarantine Escape Room Lets You Rescue A Doctor Kidnapped For His Vaccine
Those dreams of escaping quarantine just became reality! Well, sort of. A Toronto virtual escape room just opened up and it’s the at-home adventure we all need right now. The best part? You can raise money for a good cause while you play.
"Escape From Quarantine" was created by a group of three friends currently based in Toronto.
Casey Goldstein, Corey Bacher, and Ethan Dassas spoke with Narcity via email to explain what inspired the game.
“We recognize the significant impact that COVID-19 has on mental health, and wanted to create a program that would help to improve morale for those at home and provide an innovative way for people to connect during this time of social distancing,” the trio explained.
They also acknowledge they wanted to help support struggling communities across the country at the same time.
“Together, we came up with the idea of an online escape room with all proceeds supporting the Food Banks Canada COVID-19 Response Fund," they added.
In order to play, participants need to first make a monetary donation to the fund.
You will then receive a thank-you email which includes a hidden code, giving you access to the room.
Your mission? Investigate the mysterious disappearance of a doctor who’s been working tirelessly on a vaccine.
It cuts pretty close to home right now.
According to a blurb on the "Escape From Quarantine" website: “You are members of a specialized group of detectives, brought in to investigate Dr. Clark's disappearance.
"Using your astute eye and keen problem-solving skills, you will decipher the clues and bring Dr. Clark home safely.”
Clues will be sent via email, Facebook, and Instagram.
There is no time limit on your game, but it typically takes about 60 to 90 minutes to complete.

The Toronto-based trio, who worked on this game while still maintaining their regular full-time jobs and schooling, hopes to reach and exceed their fundraising goals.
“We developed the idea, storyline and created the website all while maintaining our other responsibilities — Corey is still working at St. Michael’s Hospital in the Neurology department and Casey is completing her second year of medical school online,” the team shared.
“We had so much fun working on this project and it turned out to be the perfect activity while in quarantine! Our initial goal was to raise $5000. However, we are hoping to exceed those early expectations.”
So if you need a virtual escape or want to help support a good cause, why not give this new escape room a shot?
