Animal Shelters Across Canada Are Putting Up Hundreds Of Pets For Adoption This Christmas

If you've ever wanted to be a pet owner, now's your chance - Ontario animal shelters across the province are putting pets in need up for adoption for the holiday season and are encouraging people to adopt.

The Ontario SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is running a nationwide campaign called "iAdopt", which aims to "educate the public about the importance of choosing pet adoption as their first option when bringing home a new family member." This season, the campaign has already led to over 1,100 adoptions, and they're hoping to see that number continue to grow this Christmas.

"iAdopt for the Holidays" began on Nov. 1, 2017 and will run until the end of December at participating SPCAs, Humane Societies and rescue groups across Canada. The hope is that the holidays will inspire people who have always wanted a pet to finally welcome a pet into their home.

Here's a preview of some of the pets you can adopt:

Location: Leeds & Grenville, ON

Location: Stouffville, ON

Location: Muskoka, ON

Dogs and puppies are sold for $450 each. There's also a special promotion where anyone who adopts a cat or kitten in November will get a free box of Arm & Hammer Cat Litter. All cats and kittens being put up for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped, covered under insurance for six weeks and are up to date with vaccinations. They are being sold for $175 each.

There may be some pets available for adoption that are not listed on the websites. Please call the animal shelter ahead of time, or make a visit and talk to a representative.
