Environment Canada Issues Freezing Rain Warning For Toronto And Urges Extra Caution Around Black Ice

Extreme cold warnings may have been lifted for Toronto, but the city is facing another winter threat - black ice.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for citizens to be extra careful when driving or commuting due to snow and freezing rain. As much as 10 cm of snow is expected to fall across Southern Ontario, with Toronto seeing around just half of that. York, Durham, Halton and Peel will also receive mixed precipitation as Monday progresses.

The morning will begin with a bout of freezing rain, which will then turn into snow by the afternoon. Roads will be notably more slippery, so drivers are cautioned to drive slower than usual or limit driving altogether.

The silver lining to all this is that Toronto is expected to have a much warmer week, with highs in the single-digit positives by Thursday. Windchills have moved out of the area so there will be a period of relief from the cold, however a few chilly winds will still sweep through the city here and there.
