GO Train Passengers Could Face A $5000 Fine For Taking Selfies On The Tracks (VIDEO)

Sometimes it really seems as though people will do anything “for the gram.” A shocking new video posted on Twitter Thursday morning showed two risk-takers standing on the tracks of Kitchener’s GO Station taking photos on their cellphones. The senseless act might have seemed harmless at them, but according to Metrolinx, trespassing onto the tracks comes with serious consequences.

In the video, posted by Carly Mohr of Tavistock, Ontario, a man can be seen standing in the middle of the tracks taking photos of a group of people gathered on the tracks as well as behind the platform’s yellow line. Mohr told the Toronto Star that she had been waiting for the GO train when she spotted the risk-takers. According to Mohr, the man waited to the last moment to run across the tracks and leap back onto the platform.

“I thought he actually got hit because I heard screaming as the train’s horn blared,” Mohr said during an interview with the Toronto Star.

Mohr later shared another video which showed a person, dressed in red trespassing onto the tracks to take a quick selfie. The maximum penalty for trespassing onto rail tracks is a whopping $5,000, making that one expensive selfie!

According to Global News, Metrolinx’s Senior Media Manager Anne Marie Aikins became aware of the video and alerted GO Transit Safety to launch an investigation into the matter. “You cannot beat a train. Imagine the hell your family would go thru after receiving the news,” she tweeted out.

Aikins wasn’t the only Metrolinx official to respond to the shocking act of stupidity. Metrolinx spokesperson Matt Lewellyn also spoke to the Toronto Star about the disturbing video. “What we saw out there today was just incredibly stupid and incredibly dangerous.”

According to Llewellyn, GO trains are not only fast but can also be hard to hear. That statement alone shows how it dangerous it is for trespassers who jump onto the tracks under the notion that they'll have plenty of time to get out of the way.
