Impaired GTA Driver Was Caught Driving Into Oncoming Traffic (VIDEO)

York Regional Police posted a shocking video of an impaired GTA driver to Twitter on Wednesday. According to a police news release, a 42-year-old tractor-trailer driver was charged with impaired driving after he was seen driving on the wrong side of the road. The incident, which took place on Monday, February 4, 2020, occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. near the intersection of Keele St. and Langstaff Rd. in Vaughn.

According to police, it was reported by a concerned driver who spotted the tractor-trailer driving into oncoming traffic. The truck was later found by officers facing east in a westbound lane.

Dashcam footage of the moment police intercepted the vehicle was later shared via Twitter.

"Thanks to a 911 call from a citizen who as you can hear was clearly concerned, the driver of a tractor-trailer who was driving on the wrong side of the road in Vaughan around 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning was arrested for impaired driving and removed from our roads," read the tweet by York Regional Police.

Police noted that the driver had failed both a breath test and a drug test before being placed under arrest. The man's licence was later suspended, and the tractor-trailer was also impounded.

Narcity reached out to York Regional Police for further comment.

"This is just another shocking case of impaired driving that has taken place on York Region roads," said Sgt Andy Pattenden told Narcity.

"You can hear the panic in the 9-1-1 callers' voice as the tractor-trailer was driving on the wrong side of the road. Thankfully no one was injured, and that call to 9-1-1 may have saved lives. We continue to encourage anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver to call 9-1-1 immediately."

However, this isn't the first time Ontario police have had to respond to a driver going down the wrong side of the road.

Last summer, a transport truck was spotted driving down the wrong side of the QEW.

It was predicted that the truck was able to make it down 8.5 kilometres of the highway before it was stopped.

The driver later informed police that they had became confused by the construction and didn't notice until they were already stuck on the wrong side of the highway.
