IT Chapter Two Mississauga Filming Location Is Random As Hell

The GTA is no stranger to filming big-budget movies and TV shows, particularly with Toronto being used as a cheaper substitute for New York City. And it's no different for the horror blockbuster IT: Chapter Two. Mississauga was one of many Canadian filming locations for the movie, and it turns out one iconic scene was even filmed in a Mandarin restaurant.

In the movie, which was released on September 6, members of the Losers' Club from the first movie reunite after the evil clown Pennywise returns to terrorize the town of Derry, Maine, 27 years on.

And it turns out a very notable scene, when the Losers' Club have their reunion in a Chinese restaurant, was filmed in Mississauga!

"The city's Creative Industries Office reports one scene was filmed on private property off of Hurontario," the city revealed.

Specifically, the famous scene was shot at the Mandarin Restaurant at 87 Matheson Blvd. E, according to InSauga. The popular buffet chain welcomed the likes of James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was the adult cast's very first time filming together.

The scene in question depicts the childhood friends meeting up as adults to fulfill a promise to stop Pennywise, who has returned after a long absence.

Actor Isaiah Mustafa, who plays the adult Mike Hanlon in the sequel, told THR that the scene took the best part of four days to film in total.

"Yes, that was the first scene that we all shot together," Mustafa said. "That scene was so much fun to film, because we were all getting to know each other, and (Bill) Hader is so good at breaking the ice and making everyone else feel comfortable."

"So, it was very easy for all of us to get to know each other and laugh. It was a good three-and-a-half or four days of filming that scene, and it was so much fun to play with those guys. Once we finished that, then it was like, 'Alright, what's next?'"

So, did you spot the recognizable chain in the movie?

Naturally, some people on Reddit got there first.

"Definitely caught this and I was f****** GEEKING in the cinema," read one comment.

"I knew which Mandarin it was as soon as I saw the scene," wrote another user.

We're not sure when exactly the scene is likely to have been filmed, but filming in Toronto began sometime last summer. In fact, the cast was spotted hanging out together in the Yorkville region of Toronto last July.

So there you have it. If you go to watch IT: Chapter Two any time soon, don't be too surprised to feel a sudden hankering for all-you-can-eat Chinese food.
