Emotional Rally Held For 24-Year-Old Student Killed Outside Ontario Bar (VIDEO)

A 24 year old London, Ontario woman was struck and killed by a stray bullet while hanging out in a parking lot outside of a Mississauga bar earlier his month. Jackline Keji Gore and her friends were hanging out outside of Fume Bar and Lounge on Tobram Road just before 3 a.m. on July 8 when a gunman opened fire on another man, accidentally killing Keji Gore in the process.

Investigators say that the gunman was wearing a hood and arrived on the scene in a crossover-style vehicle.

“A suspect approached a group of men standing by the doors to the bar, and the suspect started shooting at one of the men, who then fled through parking lot,” Peel Regional Police Inspector Martin Ottaway explained to CP24. Keji Gore was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We know there were a number of people in the parking lot when the shooting occurred, and we need those people to do the right thing,” Ottaway continued.

Keji Gore's immediate family has yet to offer up their remarks on the matter. However, a spokesperson for the family did release this statement:

“As times and generations change, these senseless acts continue to plague our communities. Jackline was an innocent victim who didn’t deserve to be taken the way she was, from her family, friends, and community that loved her."

Keji Gore’s cousin, James Swaka, has also urged any witnesses of the shooting to come forward immediately.

“Jackline was an innocent victim who didn’t deserve to be taken the way she was,” Swaka said, according to CP24.

A GoFundMe page was started to help cover the cost of Keji Gore’s family’s funeral expenses. The page has already far surpassed its initial goal of $10,000, with over $26,000 raised for the cause.

“Please help raise money to support the Gore family for funeral expenses for the passing of their beloved daughter and sister Jackline Gore. This is a tragic passing where no family should ever experience. She was a young beautiful, loving, and caring person who always smiled and laughed. Please show your generosity for her and her family, much love,” reads a statement on the page.

Global News' Catherine McDonald reported that friends and family of Keji Gore had gathered in the parking lot where she was killed this Friday to mourn the loss of their loved one:

Jackline was reportedly a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and a hard-working student  According to The London Free Press, Keji Gore was a skilled basketball player who helped her school’s team make the city finals three times.

After graduating high school, she attended York University where she played varsity basketball. The 24-year-old then returned home to London where she studied at Western University. Keji Gore worked as a phone specialist at a local bank and as a part-time server at a restaurant.
