It appears as though the Toronto Maple Leafs have a new pair of celebrities to blame for their devastating game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins last night. Justin and Hailey Bieber took flak for popping by TD Garden in Boston to root for the Leafs during the nail-biting playoff game. Justin Bieber's Leafs game appearance wasn't welcome by many fans, who claim the celebrity "cursed" the team.
Bieber, in particular, got hate for tweeting out a prayer for his team. Biebs posted a similar prayer before game 6 when the Leafs got dusted by Boston 4-2. That coincidence was all superstitious Leafs fans needed to brand Bieber the new carrier of the curse, which was formerly held by beloved Toronto rapper Drake.
Bieber's wife Hailey was mostly spared from the ridicule. A few disgruntled Twitter users did take a few shots at her for being associated with Bieber, or "the cursed one", as he was being called. But fans pointed their criticism at Justin with some even calling for a Bieber ban at future Leafs games.

Despite the brutal onslaught of hate from Leaf fans, no one gave it to Justin worse than the Bruin fans who mocked the popstar's prayers. Bruins fan David Pastrnak set Twitter ablaze after he openly mocked Bieber for his plea to God.

But, the curse is nothing more than a superstitious theory amongst fans. It appears to have no significance to the team, or to head coach Mike Babcock who brushed it off as nonsense. “I’ve heard lots of things since I’ve come here, but that’s one of the craziest things. The game is played on the ice by us. There’s no curse whatsoever," Babcock said to the Toronto Sun.
The Leafs' loss last night marks their third time getting eliminated by Boston in seven years. Curse or not, that's just plain unlucky.
