The decision comes after Trudeau received a wave of criticism, from both Canadians and Americans, for his rather warm statements regarding the Cuban president.

Trudeau described Castro as "a larger than life leader" and "legendary revolutionary and orator" who made "significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation." The full statement can be read here.

The outrage stems from the fact that Castro was undoubtedly a terrible dictator whose legacy involves the murder of countless Cubans and an intensified state of poverty that still plagues the nation.

Trudeau's statements sent mixed messages across the globe. While Cuba is one of Canada's closest allies and Castro holds some historical relevance to Trudeau (he was one of the pallbearers at his father's funeral), many people believed Trudeau's eulogy glorified the dictator's horrific rule and actions.
