Lilly Singh Just Got Nominated For The Biggest Streamy Award This Year

The nominees for the 9th annual Streamy Awards were just announced and Scarborough’s own Lilly Singh is up for the “Creator of the Year” award. She is up against nine other amazing creators including David Dobrik, Emma Chamberlain, and Safiya Nygaard. Lilly Singh’s Streamy Award nomination for “Creator of the Year” is super exciting for Canadians in the online content industry. Even if you’re from a small city, it doesn’t mean you can’t make it big! 

This isn’t Singh’s first rodeo at the Streamy Awards which showcases online video creators and recognizes them for their achievements in a variety of categories. Singh won the “First Person” award not once but twice in 2015 and again in 2017. The award is handed out to creators whose content features one main character talking directly to the audience, often in vlogging style. Singh isn’t nominated for any other awards this year.

The only other Canadian nominated for “Creator of the Year” is Simply Nailogical, formally known as Cristine, who hails from Richmond Hill, Ontario. She is also up for the “First Person” award. The super-popular nail artist is known by her 7.43 million subscribers for creating wacky and amazing nail polish designs in weird places (like on a golf course or at a hockey game --so Canadian of her).

Singh recently got her own TV showA Little Late with Lilly Singh, which is currently in its first season on NBC. She has interviewed celebrity guests including Anna Faris, Jessica Alba, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Natalie Portman. 

Despite the growing popularity of her talk show, Singh still stays true to her roots and posts on her YouTube channel||Superwoman|| to her 14.9 million subscribers. She released a video in March this year sharing the great news about getting her own TV show, and since then has still posted videos in the same hilarious and entertaining theme of her channel. 

Ottawa’s own Elle Mills is also nominated for the “Editing” award and she expressed her gratitude for being recognized for all of her hard work on Twitter, saying the nomination “really means a lot.” Mill’s channel ElleOftheMills was created in 2014 and after graduating high school, she decided to pursue YouTube full time and now has 1.82 million subscribers who love her for her quirky content. 

Oakville’s Molly Burke is nominated for the “Collaboration” award for a video she did on her channel alongside the Dolan Twins where they went skydiving (the catch is that Molly is legally blind!) Burke started off as a motivational speaker for the blind community and decided to take to YouTube to share her story and inspire others.

She has 1.91 million subscribers and her content is super entertaining, and the fact that she can do her own makeup perfectly is pretty amazing. 

The award show will take place on December 13 in Beverly Hills, California and will air live on YouTube around the world.
