Medicinal Mushroom Coffee Actually Exists And This Superfood Snack Cafe In Toronto Serves It

If there's anything you need to add to your 2019 resolution diet, it's this. nutbar, one of Toronto's newest superfood snack cafes, serves up freshly ground coffee with an Earthy and highly nutritious twist - medicinal mushrooms. Not to be confused with magic mushrooms, which doesn't exist as far as we know but would, admittedly, be pretty awesome. Medicinal mushrooms are actually a tasteless but highly potent superfood. nutbar's founder, Kate Taylor Martin, tells Narcity how it all works.
Taylor Martin explains that medicinal mushrooms are a natural immune system booster used in ancient Chinese medicine, and are rich with antioxidants. Adding mushroom extracts like lion’s mane, chaga, reishi or cordyceps (the four varities nutbar offers) to your morning cup is proven to improve your focus, boost your mood and reduce the effects of ageing. How, you ask? Taylor Martin tells us that medicinal mushrooms are some of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.
nutbar has made medicinal mushrooms available as $1 add-ons to any hot beverage, smoothie on their menu. They are sourced from a local, sustainable company, Rainbo.
