Michelle Obama Is In Toronto Today For Her First Canadian Speaking Engagement

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is in Toronto today ahead of her much-anticipated speaking engagement about equity and education for women and girls. 

Kicking off her Canadian tour here in Toronto, the Harvard Law grad and advocate for women's rights and gender equality has teamed up with the Economic Club of Canada and Plan International Canada to give a series of talks on these subjects near and dear to her heart.

Today's event takes place at the massive Mattamy Centre with approximately 3,000 people in attendance, including a group of young women who were lucky enough to win free tickets to her event. 

And as part of her efforts engage and include young females in important discussions, Michelle's talk awarded a ticket to a girl or woman between the ages of 14 to 24 for every regular-priced ticket that was sold.  

The young women lucky enough to have won tickets to today's event will be seated amongst corporate leaders says Rhiannon Traill, CEO Economic Club of Canada.

According to CBC, two lucky Canadian students have been granted tickets to Michelle's event. Kanwarpreet Karwal and Amir Siddique entered the contest for free tickets earlier this month. Each submitted a one-minute video explaining how they would like world leaders to promote gender equality amd the rights of women.

Today, these two girls will be among those honoured as youth ambassadors for gender equality at the speaking engagement.

Meanwhile, former Vice President and one half of the Obama-Biden bromance, Joe Biden, will be in Montreal today. He is the headline speaker at a conference called The Art of Leadership.
