Multiple Ontario Schools Are On Lockdown Over Bomb And Shooting Threats Today

Police across Ontario are responding to threats at schools today. In both Toronto and Kingston, several schools have been put on lockdown after shooting and bomb threats were made.

In Toronto Western Technical-Commercial School, Ursula Franklin Academy, and a daycare on the same property are currently on lockdown after reports of a man with a gun in the building.

Meanwhile, in Kingston, police are responding to anonymous bomb and shooting threats that where phoned in at Loyalist Collegiate & Vocational Institute and École Secondaire Catholique Marie-Rivier. Both schools have also been placed on lockdown. In this case, this is the second day of investigations.

Similar threats were phoned in at two other Kingston schools yesterday but nothing was found by police when they arrived. Police there believe that all of the calls are coming from one person.

Kingston police are actively investigating the threats made yesterday and today to some of our local schools. The threats have been similar in nature and no actual threat has been found at any school at this time. #ygk

At all the schools involved, it is unclear how long lockdown orders will be in effect. But police are on the scene and currently investigating both situations.

It's unclear if it's just a coincidence, but these school threats and lockdowns come on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. This day marks the anniversary of the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in which 14 women were killed at their school. The massacre happened 29 years ago today in Montreal.

In Toronto, other nearby schools, Runnymede Public School, Annette Street Public School and Humberside Collegiate Institute have been put in a hold and secure as a precaution. Police remain on the scene at all the schools and lockdowns are still in effect.
