Imagine that you’re the head coach of a thriving NBA franchise and your star player calls you up and tells you he is jumping ship. How would you react? Well, if you are Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse, you shrug it off, lay back and enjoy the rest of your day. That’s precisely what the head coach did when Kawhi Leonard texted him to let him know that he was returning home to California to play for the Los Angeles Clippers.
ESPN host Rachel Nichols shared the details of her encounter with Nurse, in which she revealed how the Raptors coach reacted to Kawhi's big news.
“Just ran into Raptors Coach Nick Nurse at Summer League - he told me he was watching a Prince impersonator at the Tropicana when the text came in about Kawhi choosing the Clippers. He said he read it, shrugged and figured he might as well stay & enjoy the rest of the show,” Nichols tweeted.
Tell me that isn’t the most chill reaction to bad news you’ve ever heard. Nurse was kicking back enjoying a Prince impersonator in Las Vegas when he was hit with the bomb that the Boardman wouldn’t be coming back to help the Raptors win another championship. And he just shrugged it off and tuned back into the music. Which hopefully speaks to Nurse's confidence that the Raptors will succeed even without their former star.

Nurse isn’t the only one who brushed off Kawhi’s departure. According to Sportsnet, Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri expressed during a press conference this week that he isn’t losing any sleep over Leonard’s departure.
“This is the NBA, and this is how it works. I always say, ‘You can’t hide underneath the table and cry.’ Honestly, I’ve lost no sleep, I’m not disappointed. It’s onto the next. I’m telling Raptors fans and everybody: Don’t lose one second of sleep. We’re gonna be just fine," Masai said.
