Canadians should be wary as a winter storm is forecasted to hit Northern Ontario today and Ontarians can expect significant snowfall, ice pellets and strong winds in the Northern regions of the province. Environment Canada has now issued special weather warnings for several towns in Northern Ontario.

"Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions", warned Environment Canada. The special weather alert of a winter storm is in effect for several Northern Ontario regions, such as City of Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Marathon, Superior North, Sault Ste. Marie and Superior East.

There are also special snowfall warnings for parts of Northern Ontario, such as Geraldton, Manitouwadge, Hornepayne, Timmins and Cochrane. "Significant snowfall will persist into Friday," announced Environment Canada. "Snow at times heavy is expected to continue tonight and persist into Friday. Total snowfall amounts of up to 20 cm are possible". For some regions, you can even see snow and ice pellet accumulation, and freezing rain is also possible.

Meanwhile, in another part of the province, Toronto is enjoying unusually warm weather and experienced 13 degree Celsius weather earlier today – while Northern Ontario has a winter storm warning and Southern Ontario is forecasted to get freezing rain

Toronto has a completely different weather forecast than many other cities in the province. This morning it was as warm as 13 degrees Celcius in the city, according to CP24, which is not usual winter weather, especially for Ontario.

Now the forecast for tomorrow in Toronto is 11 degrees Celcius, according to CP24, which is still high for the peak of winter. Especially considering how big of a contrast it is in other parts of the province, such as Northern Ontario and Southern Ontario where there is currently a freezing rain weather alert

If you're in Northern Ontario, be careful out on the roads! In regions such as North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa, West Nipissing and French River, "Travel may become hazardous from this afternoon into early Saturday morning", warns Environment Canada, due to the "significant winter storm expected this afternoon into Friday night".

If you're in Toronto however, enjoy the warm winter weather and happily leave your winter parka at home while the relatively high temperatures last.
