Yesterday when we all heard that a van had run down over 2 dozen people in the north part of Toronto most of us all probably thought the same thing, that this was some kind of terror attack on the city.
We’ve all heard in recent years of incidents where vehicles have been used as weapons in the past by terrorists. They’re cheap and easy to operate and you can kill and injure a lot of people in a short space of time with them.
But it seems right now that that yesterday’s incident is not being treated as part of an organized terror plot.
Current information points to this as being an isolated incident.
After speaking with top security officials - based on information to date - there appears to be NO National Security connection to the horrible event in Toronto today.
That’s according to Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, who says that while the attack was “horrendous” that at this time there doesn’t seem to be any information that links this to part of some organized plot of terrorism.
“There would appear to be no national security connection to this particular incident," Goodale said.
There is also no evidence that Canada’s national security threat level should be raised because of the attack said Goodale.
The investigation may evolve says Goodale but as of this moment there is no reason to suspect that this was part of an prepared and well thought out terror attack on Toronto.
10 people were killed and 15 others were injured in yesterday’s horrific incident.
The suspect for yesterday’s incident, Alek Minassian, was arrested and will appear in court in Toronto today.
