Ontario Couple Held Hostage By 5 Suspects Over Unpaid Debts

Durham Regional Police have confirmed that five suspects have been arrested after an incident where an Ontario couple was held hostage overnight over an unpaid debt. On the morning of March 27, Durham Police received a report about the couple who had been held against their will in Oshawa. The suspects are now facing multiple charges. 

In a press release from Durham Police, it states that a male and female were held hostage at a residence on Toronto Avenue in Oshawa and were unable to leave the residence. After being held hostage the entire night, the male victim was able to leave the residence on Wednesday morning.  Once leaving the area he immediately contacted the police to inform them of the situation and that his girlfriend was still stuck inside the house. 

Durham Police, with the help of the K-9 Unit, appeared on the scene and attempted to communicate and negotiate with the suspects inside of the building. Eventually, the police were able to rescue the female at around 5 PM on Wednesday night. The female sustained minor injuries from the incident.

While locating the female victim, police were able to make four arrests on the scene. Tina Baker, 40, Rashid Plummer, 25, Hassan Saeed, 26, and Heidi Bendoratis, 40, were all charged with forcible confinement. While Plummer was also charged with assault with a weapon. 

The fifth victim, Faarsan Ibrahim, 40, was located around 1 AM in a vehicle on the 401 in Whitby.

When police attempted to stop the victim as he was attempting to enter the wrong side of the highway. Ibrahim slammed into a police car, knocking it into a nearby ditch, causing one officer to be taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 

Ibrahim was charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and flight from police. All five suspects were held for a bail hearing.
