Tires Keep Flying Off Cars On The Ontario 400-Series Highways (PHOTOS)
It was a rough week on the 400-series highways for Ontario drivers as two separate incidents of tire separation were reported. The OPP continues to caution motorists about the dangers of leaving your tires loose. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported as a result of either accident. However, both incidents resulted in close calls with one causing a driver to lose control of his vehicle before rolling over into a ditch.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP posted a video on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, in which he detailed what motorists should do when switching out their summer tires for winter ones.
“Yesterday, we had an SUV’s wheel come off; we had a delivery truck’s set of duals come off, which caused another vehicle to roll over. We need everyone to think about what they are doing because if they cut corners, it can certainly lead to problems,” Schmidt explained in the brief clip.
“The last thing you want to do is be stuck on the side of the road with your tire and wheel bouncing down the highway.”
As of right now, the maximum fine under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act for having detached parts is $2,000.

Ontario Provincial Police warned drivers on Tuesday to ensure that their tires are secured following a terrifying incident on Highway 407 in which a delivery truck's wheels flew off and bounced into oncoming traffic.
The driver was not seriously injured in the incident. However, one motorist veered off into a ditch, and a second vehicle was struck by the tire, resulting in minor damage.

A similar incident led to several significant shutdowns on Ontario's Highway 400 back in June after a car tire critically injured a 29-year-old woman.
The tire reportedly flew off a moving vehicle and smashed into the windshield of the woman’s car. She was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Another related accident left a man critically injured back in May after a wheel flew off an SUV and hit his vehicle on Highway 400.
