Doug Ford has definitely made it clear that he is completely against the new federal carbon tax. The provincial government is now trying to taking action against the tax by showing Ontarians just how much the new tax is costing them at gas stations. The Ontario government is looking to fine gas stations that fail to display anti-carbon tax stickers

The provincial government's 2019 budget was released to the public yesterday. It had legislation that would require gas stations to be fined up to $10,000 each day that they fail to display the anti-carbon tax stickers.

Under the Federal Carbon Tax Transparency Act, gas stations in Ontario would be required to put the government's stickers about the carbon tax on all gas station pumps. If they don't, they could be fined up to $5,000 for their first offence and up to $10,000 for every single day that the stickers aren't put up after that.

"The people of Ontario deserve to know the full truth about how the federal carbon tax will make their lives more unaffordable," said Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, in a news release. "This job-killing tax will make everything more expensive, but it will hit our wallets hardest when it comes to gas prices and home-heating costs."

So what exactly would the stickers look like? They would show how much taxes on gas prices have risen as a result of the federal carbon tax. See a photo of them below.

Funny but I don’t see anything about Ford being invoiced to put these stickers on gas pumps. Surely even he isn’t dumb enough to try & force gas stations to carry his propaganda fro free?

This move has been met with criticism from many. Several Ontarians have taken to Twitter to slam this proposed legislation.

How much will it cost us to inspect all the gas stations?

What if the stickers are defaced? Like if I put a big planet earth sticker on top of the anti-carbon tax sticker... will the gas station get in trouble?

Open for business... or else.

While we are talking about this, can we bring in the outrageous new laws the @OntarioPCParty brought in with Bill 36 that now permits e-cigarette advertising? These e-cig ads are all over gas pumps and stations now. Despicable.

Don’t worry... we can tailgate and be served alcohol at 9am now. Life is good....

What happened to the "conservatives" for limited gov? We're being forced to put up propaganda on private businesses.

I guess this is how the budget will get balanced.

"Unfortunately, the federal carbon tax is going to make the cost of filling up your tank more expensive," said Doug Ford in a news statement. "I promise the people of Ontario that our government will continue to fight this tax with every tool at our disposal."

The carbon tax became effective in Ontario earlier this month on April 1. It is being imposed by the federal government in three other provinces as well.
