7 Restaurants To Go Before And After A Leafs' Game

Oh the good old hockey game!

Leafs games are Toronto's favourite past time.

Regardless of how the team is doing, the seats at the ACC will be full when the boys in blue (and white) are in town to play. Hockey is a Canadian tradition that is so ingrained in our city, even if you don't care about it, you do.

Part of the reason we love going to a Leaf's game is that it gives us an excuse to drink on any given day of the week? Leafs vs. Islanders on a Tuesday? DRINK. Leafs vs. Tampa? DRINK.

But price of the drinks and food at the ACC is enough to kill your buzz. So where are some good places to head to before a Leafs game? :

1. Irish Embassy

49 Yonge Street

$6 Pints Sunday-Thursday? Perfect for Leafs games, which happen all throughout the week! This spot is actually a well-preserved heritage site and is located inside a majestic building that used to be one of Toronto's first banks, giving it that old-school vibe.

2. E11even

15 York St

In terms of location, you can't get any closer to the ACC than e11even restaurant. This amazing restaurant has everything you could want before a game: awesome drinks, great food, including their famous baby-back ribs glazed with their in-house bbq sauce and topped with crushed peanuts, and a lively atmosphere to get you pumped for the game! They also just unveiled a new menu in celebration

3. Oyshi Sushi

12 Queens Quay

For those of you who aren't feeling the typical pub-food that goes along with hockey games, try this cute sushi spot instead. It's a no-frills sushi restaurant, which is really the best kind of sushi spot if you ask me. Miso soup, rolls, edamame. What else could anyone want? They also offer curtained private booths, a nice touch for larger parties.

4. Scotland Yard

56 The Esplanade

This great pre-game spot has been a Toronto institution for 35 years, and is known as a landmark of the St. Lawrence Market Area. They have 15 beers on tap, including several craft beers. The food features all the typical plates that go perfectly with a pint: nachos, burgers, and poutine. Mmmmm.

5. Old Spaghetti Factory

54 The Esplanade

You know what's the best thing to eat before a big hockey win ( aka a big night of drinking)? Carbs and the Old Spaghetti Factory is the perfect place to get some. It's place with great food is combined with good great prices. Plus, can you really go wrong with spaghetti and meatballs? The answer is "no".

6. Library Bar

100 Front St.

If you're feeling dapper, the Library Bar at the Fairmont Royal York is a great place to grab a drink or five before heading over to the ACC. It's cozy, refined, and perhaps a good place if you want to get away from the typical boisterous hockey crowd. They also have a great afternoon tea service (totally irrelevant to hockey, but worth noting!)

Just a short walk up Bay St from the ACC, this spot, which serves "Canadian" food, is the perfect spot for a dinner out before the most Canadian thing of all: hockey! Try their mac & cheese with smoked ham pictured above.
