On June 10th, police arrived at Selby-Readman's downtown Toronto apartment and found her unresponsive, suffering from obvious signs of trauma. Post-mortem examination results proved that her death was a homicide.

On Sunday, police charged and arrested Richard Isaac, a 41-year-old from Brampton, Ontario. Isaac had moved into Selby-Readman's apartment just a few weeks earlier, after the two allegedly met on social media.

Toronto homicide detectives revealed that Selby-Readman had been texting friends about Isaac, whom she'd found through her posts on Instagram and in Facebook groups seeking a roommate.

Detectives also believe that Isaac had been messaging other women on social media at the time as well. They say that Isaac had a few encounters with Durham police prior to Selby-Readman's death, involving domestic issues with other women.

"It was a roommate-type relationship, but due to the brief time he was there and the level of violence that occurred within a few weeks, (the death) is unusual," Det. Paul Worden says. He also says that Selby-Readman knew about it, but she "did not know the whole extent."

Loved ones have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Selby-Readman's family. The description reads that she's "fallen victim to yet another act of violence against a woman."

"Victoria was an intelligent, beautiful young woman with an incredible ambition for love and life," the description says, "Those closest to Victoria know that she marched to the rhythm of her own drum and was one of the most caring, empathetic souls. Victoria was special, a diamond in the rough; everyone wanted to be a part of that. "

Isaac appeared in court yesterday and was charged with one count of second-degree murder. Toronto investigators are asking anyone with helpful information to come forward.
