Taylor Swift Collaborated With Toronto Teens On Her New Album & Donated To Their School

Not only is Taylor Swift’s new album Lover arguably her best work, it also has strong ties to Toronto. Swift’s latest release is helping fund Toronto’s Regent Park School Of Music. The song on the Taylor Swift new album, “It’s Nice To Have A Friend” features a collaboration with the school’s students, who sang and played instruments on the album’s 17th track.

Toronto’s Regent Park School Of Music provides musical education to children in the city’s high-priority neighbourhoods.

“Words can't describe how thrilled we are to hear our students on Taylor Swift’s new album,” Richard Marsella, Executive Director, Regent Park School of Music said. “This exposure is raising awareness and much-needed funds for the Regent Park School of Music. The royalties we receive from the use of our composition in the song will help fund musical education, and for that, we are truly grateful.”

The composition was put together thanks to the help of Toronto-born producer Frank Dukes, who help produced Swift’s latest full-length. According to ET Canada, Duke spent three days working with the students.

However, the singer-songwriter didn’t just collaborate with students. According to Tory Crowder, a spokesperson for Jumpstart Communications, Swift also made a “generous donation” to the school, who works tirelessly to remove financial obstacles so at-risk children can obtain a musical education

Although it is unknown exactly how much Swift donated to the school at the moment, the gesture was significant for the school. The collaboration also guarantees that every time the album is purchased, licensed or sampled, royalties got to the school. The initiative is going to help so many kids in Toronto receive a musical education.

Officials at Regent Park hope that Swift’s generosity will inspire others to support the school. You can listen to the epic collaboration below:
