There’s so much content on a big number of streaming platforms to satisfy people with all sorts of interests. If you take a liking to sci-fi series and this Canadian show isn’t on your list, it’s certainly one to consider adding. The Expanse on Amazon Prime Video is filmed in Toronto and has incredible ratings from TV critics.

There are currently four seasons available to stream and season five is in production according to What’s Filming. They note that filming started on October 22 and will go until February 26.

IMDb also confirmed that the main production location is in The Six and includes “Pinewood Toronto Studios, Port Lands” as a second location. The movie studio is located at 225 Commissioners St. according to Google Maps. New York City is also noted on the IMDb page.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series earned itself a 96% average audience score. Season one had the lowest score with 77% but it was only up from there and season two earned a 95%. The past two seasons have been recognized with an impeccable 100% rating. Even on IMDb, out of over 85,000 ratings, the show has an 8.5/10 score.

The plot according to IMDb is, “A police detective in the asteroid belt, the first officer of an interplanetary ice freighter, and an earth-bound United Nations executive slowly discover a vast conspiracy that threatens the Earth's rebellious colony on the asteroid belt.”

The detective named Joe Miller is played by Thomas Jane, who you may know from Deep Blue Sea or The Thin Red Line. Officer Jim Holden is played by Steven Strait, known for his roles in The Covenant and 10,000 BC. The UN executive, Chrisjen Avasarala, is played by Shohreh Aghdashloo best known for her role as Dina Araz in 24 and as Commodore Paris in Star Trek Beyond.

Other cast members on IMDb include Cas Anvar, Dominique Tipper, West Chatham, Frankie Adams, Chad L. Coleman, and Cara Gee.

Anvar, who plays Alex Kamal, comes from Regina, Saskatchewan and was raised in Montreal and attended McGill University according to IMDb.

He posted a snowy video last week calling Toronto the “North Pole”.

Deadline reported that Keon Alexander, Nadine Nicole, and Jasai Chase Owens are series regulars as of the fifth season. Alexander and Owens both first joined the cast in 2019, and Nicole has been in nine episodes since 2018.
