The Toronto Police have announced that Boakye was known to police prior to his death and have now concluded that he was a target in the drive-by shooting. It has also been confirmed that Boakye is the father of two children.

Boakye was driving a Dodge Journey SUV while waiting to turn southbound onto Islington. That's when the shooter pulled up in what is described as a grey or silver Hyundai Elantra to Boakye's passenger side and fired numerous shots into his vehicle.  It was only around 11:00 AM in the morning when this happened.

Police are asking that anyone with any additional information please contact them as they investigate the incident.

After the city's tragic week, we can only hope that the gun violence ends soon. As of Monday, July 23, Toronto had seen 39 people fall victim to gun violence in July alone.
