That being said, it can be quite discouraging to be a homebuyer in this day and age, especially in a city like Toronto. For those who are currently faced with real estate woes, here's an alternate option to consider - why not buy your own private island?
Heli Island is a 7-acre private island on Lake Nipissing in North Bay, Ontario that is currently on sale. The island comes with a custom-built cedar house built in 1996, a sheltered boat dock and float-airplane access, so you'd have everything you need to survive without being completely disconnected from the rest of the world.
The cottage itself comes fully-furnished with an open-concept living room, dining room, kitchen, 4-piece bathroom, a spacious sun room and a sauna. Its equipped with running water (hot water included) and electricity from its solar energy panels and 4600 watt generator. A flat screen TV and WiFi connection is also available.
But perhaps the best part about this island is that it is listed for $599,000. That almost less than half the current average price of a detached home in Toronto! Obviously, there are more factors other than price that should be considered before buying an island instead of a house; however, it might be nice for some people to know that the option exists!
