Tacos are literally the best meal, especially in the summer. There's nothing better than heading over to the closest Mexican restaurant in your neighbourhood, relaxing on their sunny patio, and enjoying a plate full of delicious tacos with a margarita in your hand.

I mean, that just sounds like the dream right now, doesn't it? Well, why not make such a tasty, heavenly dream a reality every weekend, if you want to?

Toronto is packed full of amazing Mexican restaurants that all deserve a spot on this list, but if you want to hit up some of the best, use this as an ultimate bucket list for taco joints. Don't miss out on any delicious tacos this summer!

Itacate, 998 St Clair Ave. W

Itacate is the definition of authentic Mexican food. Somewhat hidden from the public, it's secretly located inside a butcher shop! It's a tiny space, but you're guaranteed to find some seriously big flavours here that will keep you coming back for more.

King's Tacos, 1190 St Clair Ave. W

This Mexican spot has been serving up authentic tacos in Toronto since the 80s! It's almost always packed full of hungry customers, so you just know it's good. Their tacos are DIY style, so you can make them exactly how you like them.

Playa Cabana Cantina, 2883 Dundas St W

There are a few different locations of this exciting Mexican restaurant sprinkled around the city. This spot is full of lively energy and music, making it more of a fun outing than a boring old dinner spot. You can expect mouthwatering tacos and delicious drinks to enjoy while you're there.

Grand Electric, 1330 Queen St W

Grand Electric is definitely the hippest taco spot on this list. They've got an adorable, bright space with great music and food served at communal tables! Their tacos are relatively cheap as well, which is always a plus!

El Trompo, 277 Augusta Ave

El Trompo is an amazing spot with a sunny patio to enjoy in the summer months. Their guacamole is super creamy and delicious, plus they serve a taco trio for under $10!

Seven Lives, 69 Kensington Ave

Another Kensington Market favourite is this delicious taco spot, Seven Lives. It's a cash-only Baja-style taqueria that serves up some amazing seafood as well! Their tacos are a bit pricier, but they're made with super fresh ingredients and packed full of toppings, making them totally worth the price.

El Rey Mezcal Bar, 2a Kensington Ave

The final Kensington Market taco joint on the list is El Rey Mezcal Bar. This spot is focused on making unreal mezcal drinks, but they also serve up delicious tacos as well. They serve five different kinds of tacos: beef brisket, al pastor (grilled pork), Sinaloa chicken, chiles en nogada (veg), and crispy squid at two pieces for $9.95. Plus, they're open late!

Wilbur Mexicana, 552 King St W

Wilbur Mexicana is a super cool apothecary-inspired taco joint that serves up amazing food! Plus, they've got the ultimate salsa bar for you to enjoy. All of their tacos are under $5.00 each. Not to mention, they serve other great appetizers like guacamole and chips and their Mexican corn!

La Carnita, 106 John St

La Carnita has a few different restaurants open around the city, so you know it's popular. Their location on John Street is a full two-storey restaurant with fun music and a great atmosphere! Their delicious tacos aren't too pricey, and they serve all kinds of other food and appetizers as well. Mexican Street Corn, Scorpion Wings, Smoked Chorizo Quesadilla... Seriously, the list goes on. You HAVE to try this glorious place!

El Catrin Destileria, 18 Tank House Lane

I'm sure almost everyone reading this list knows about El Catrin because of its Distillery District location and gorgeous outdoor patio. Here, you're guaranteed a great time full of music, drinks, and delicious food. Their grub is definitely on the pricier side, though, with two tacos costing $12.
