Toronto commuters come in all different shapes and sizes. If TTC commuters were the dwarfs in Snow White, they'd have names like sleepy, cranky, messy - even smelly, according to some people. However, despite our best efforts to be good commuters, there is one little creature who seems to be outdoing us all. Toronto's pigeons are riding the TTC subway and they're damn good at it.

Pigeons have been riding Toronto's subway trains for years, and they do it with such grace that they honestly put us all to shame. You never see a stressed-out pigeon pushing and shoving their way onto an already packed subway train instead of waiting for the next one. A recent photograph even appeared to capture a pigeon waiting patiently in line at Union Station:

Others have been caught on video strolling around subway stations with a calm demeanour that I think we could all take a few notes from. Most of us are in such a rush to just get on the damn train that we never take the time to appreciate our city’s subway system at a leisurely pace; pigeons don’t have that problem, pigeons take their time.

I myself have had the pleasure of riding on one of our subway trains with one of the pigeon-folk. I’ll be honest with you, I was a little apprehensive at first. I was worried that it might fly up in my face - or worse, poop everywhere. But I have to admit, it was one of the more entertaining subway rides I've taken, watching that bird commute like a boss.
